Position Summary:  

The 3D Visualization Specialist will be an embedded resource in the Operations Engineering team and will utilize 3D rendering tools in conjunction with a physical mockup process to design and visualize efficient and ergonomic work-cells and retail environments for Wawa stores.  The 3D Visualization Specialist will use advanced modeling tools to bring to life ideas and concepts for consideration in Wawa stores.  Review and interpret 3D renderings and use a process engineering approach to recommend improvements to reduce complexity, lower operating costs, improve labor productivity, maximize throughput capacity, and enhance customer speed of service. 

Principal Duties

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Wawa work cell design.   Understand all functional components of a work cell and assess operational impact of new and retrofit designs.
  • Develop detailed 3D models for new and retrofit Wawa store models.
  • Work cross-functionally with Wawa’s Store Design team to translate 2D architectural plans and elevations into a 3D rendering and VR environment.  Apply Industrial Engineering expertise and interpret architectural plans, identify potential issues and recommend design solution in order to move the plan forward.
  • Utilize rendering software to deliver photo-realistic, and dimensionally accurate VR ready models.
  • Coordinate with internal and external architectural resources to interpret, identify and resolve any conflicts in design when rendering.
  • Define capacity needs to meet customer and/or production demands, taking into account process design and equipment capabilities.
  • Document operational feedback and develop action plan and design solutions to address.
  • Lead cross-functional walk-thrus, document feedback, and negotiate solutions. 
  • Manage day-to-day operation of rendering and VR hardware within the Innovation & Design Center.
  • Create “mock-up” conceptual designs and lead effort to construct mock layouts leveraging 20,000 sf mockup space and “quick-build” process for plywood structures to visualize concepts.
  • Report results to cross-functional teams and members of management through engineering reports or formal presentations.
  • Ensure that Operations Engineering functions are conducted on a timely basis through the creation of action plans to deliver targeted goal to internal customers.  Ensure that resources are used to produce accurate, practical, and actionable results.
  • Champion innovation through new design initiatives, and “feed the pipeline” with concepts that convert into successful business strategies.
  • Create and curate a library of Wawa specific fixtures, equipment, and finishes to be used in 3D models.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Architecture, or other related discipline preferred
  • 5 years of experience in technical related field
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or 3D Design Modeling (Sketchup, Enscape, AutoCAD or Revit) preferred
  • Highly proficient in process design and time study methodologies
  • Experience with functional design, ergonomics and ADA Compliance
  • Working knowledge of construction techniques
